Nintendo to replace 3.2 million Wii straps [update 1]

It's official. Nintendo has recalled 3.2 million Wii straps offering to replace early originals with new ones almost twice as thick. The Associated Press reports: "Nintendo will offer customers to exchange the old straps, which have a 0.6 millimeter (0.024 inch) diameter, for a beefed up strap that has a diameter of 1 millimeter (0.04 inch), company spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said. The worldwide recall is expected to cost the company several million dollars."

No details, however, were given as to when or how the process would take place. And keep in mind this should only mitigate flying remote occurrences as injuries and property damage have also resulted via irresponsible swinging. You know, not using peripheral vision.

In addition, Nintendo recalled 200,000 defective DS adapters in Japan though not affecting owners outside the country. That recall alone will cost Nintendo a cool million. We'll update just as soon as we learn more.
